- A 16-year-old girl received medication based on an incorrect X-ray.
- The X-ray used belonged to an 88-year-old patient with spinal curvature.
- Medical college staff member suspended following inquiry into the incident.
An inquiry report has led to the suspension of a temporary staff member at Govt Medical College, Konni, following an alleged medical negligence incident. The case involved a 16-year-old girl who sought treatment for breathing difficulties on September 14th.
She was advised to get a chest X-ray, but reportedly received a report from an 88-year-old patient detailing spinal curvature. The treating doctor allegedly prescribed medication based on this incorrect finding for four days.
The mix-up came to light when the girl underwent a follow-up examination at General Hospital, Pathanamthitta. Discrepancies between her age and the X-ray results prompted further investigation.
In response, the health minister ordered an inquiry, and the state commission for protection of child rights has taken suo motu cognisance. Reports have been sought from several authorities.
