A serious case of alleged medical negligence has surfaced in Maharashtra's Beed district. A pregnant woman from Parli taluka reportedly carried a dead fetus for 22 hours after visiting a hospital for pain and uneasiness. Her family has lodged a complaint alleging that the doctor, Kalpana Gite, attempted to hide negligence for financial benefit.
The complaint, sent to various authorities including the Beed district collector and police, states the unborn baby died and the mother's life was endangered for 22 hours due to "inexcusable negligence." The family claims that despite paying ₹25,000 for a cesarean, the doctor was absent for much of the night, causing the patient significant suffering.
District Health Officer Satish Salunke confirmed receipt of the complaint and stated that a four-member committee has been formed to investigate the hospital's practices promptly.
Dr. Kalpana Gite has refuted the allegations, asserting that the family consented to a C-section only after another doctor relative intervened. She claims the patient arrived with symptoms including vomiting, and that she followed standard procedures, managing the patient's BP and fluids before realizing the fetus's heartbeat was absent.
