Peel Public Health has launched an investigation into a potential measles exposure event that occurred on June 13. The investigation stems from a confirmed case of the highly contagious disease.
Individuals who traveled on flight ET552 from Addis Ababa to Toronto and on Air Canada flight AC410 from Toronto to Montreal are advised of potential exposure. Additionally, anyone present in Terminal 1 at Pearson International Airport between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. on June 13 may have been exposed.
Measles spreads easily among those not immunized or who have not had the disease previously. Peel Public Health recommends checking immunization records and ensuring two doses of the MMR or MMRV vaccine. Individuals born before 1970 are generally considered protected.
Symptoms of measles, including high fever, cough, runny nose, red/watery eyes, light sensitivity, or a rash, typically appear seven to 21 days after infection. Those experiencing symptoms should stay home and contact a doctor. Peel Public Health is directly notifying potentially exposed individuals.
