The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment has alerted the public to a potential measles exposure that occurred at Denver International Airport and St. Mary's Catholic Church in Littleton last weekend, February 21-22. An infectious traveler, confirmed to have measles, passed through the airport and attended a church service.
Specific travel details include Frontier flight 1279 arriving from Miami on February 21 at 9:15 a.m. and departing on Frontier flight 1280 to Miami on February 22 at 11:29 p.m. Passengers on these flights are being directly contacted by health officials. The traveler also attended a church service and reception at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 6853 S. Prince Street in Littleton, on February 22 between 9:30 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Measles is highly contagious and vaccine-preventable. Symptoms include fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, followed by a rash. Vaccination with the MMR vaccine within 72 hours of exposure can prevent illness. Free MMR vaccination clinics are available for those potentially exposed at the church, with no appointment necessary. Individuals who were at the exposure locations are advised to monitor for symptoms for 21 days after exposure and to call ahead to healthcare providers if symptoms develop.
