14 Jun
Summary
- Infectious measles case identified in Santa Clara County resident.
- Exposure sites include SFO airport and local markets.
- Vaccination remains the best defense against measles spread.

Health officials in Santa Clara County have alerted the public to a potential measles exposure. A county resident, believed to have contracted the virus during international travel, visited several public locations while infectious. On June 8, this individual was present at San Francisco International Airport between 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. Later that evening, they visited the Trader Joe's on Coleman Avenue and the International Halal Market on East Santa Clara Street between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m.
Individuals who may have been exposed are advised to monitor for measles symptoms, which typically appear seven to 10 days after exposure and include fever, cough, a rash, and tiny white spots in the mouth. They are also urged to contact a healthcare provider and avoid large gatherings to prevent further transmission. Health Officer Dr. Sarah Rudman stressed the importance of vaccination, noting that the Bay Area benefits from strong community immunity due to high vaccination rates.
