Measles Alert: SC Traveler Exposed NM Hotel Guests
7 Jan
Summary
- A South Carolina traveler was diagnosed with measles in Albuquerque.
- Potential exposure occurred at a Quality Inn hotel in late December.
- New Mexico has not had new measles cases since September.

Health officials in New Mexico are alerting the public to a potential measles exposure risk following a traveler's visit. A person from South Carolina, diagnosed with measles, stayed overnight at the Quality Inn located at 450 Paisano St. NE in Albuquerque from late December 28 to the morning of December 29. This stay has raised concerns about possible exposure to other guests at the hotel.
Although New Mexico faced a significant measles outbreak in 2025, with 100 cases across nine counties, the state officially declared the outbreak concluded in September. Since mid-August, no new measles cases have been reported. Despite this, the health department is urging vigilance.
Individuals who were at the Quality Inn during the specified dates are advised to check their vaccination status and be aware of measles symptoms. These include fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, and a characteristic spotty rash. Anyone developing these symptoms within the next 21 days should stay home to prevent further spread and seek guidance from a healthcare provider or the state Department of Health Helpline.
