Measles Spreads: Two New Unvaccinated Adults Infected
9 Apr
Summary
- Two unvaccinated adults in Weld County have contracted measles.
- A potential exposure site was identified in Colorado Springs.
- The MMR vaccine is the most effective protection against measles.

Two additional unvaccinated adults in Weld County have been diagnosed with measles, health officials confirmed. These cases are household contacts of a previously identified case, separate from the ongoing outbreak at Broomfield schools. The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) has alerted the public to a potential exposure event in El Paso County.
The identified exposure location is a Chick-fil-A at the Citadel Crossing Shopping Center in Colorado Springs, with potential contact occurring on March 25 between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. Symptoms of measles can manifest up to April 15. Health officials noted that while the MMR vaccine is highly effective, breakthrough cases can occur, particularly after prolonged household exposure, often resulting in milder illness.
Measles is a highly contagious viral illness. Public health recommendations strongly advise vaccination with the MMR vaccine as the primary method of protection for individuals, families, and communities against the spread of measles.
