Child's Death Ignites Call for Safe Water, Hygiene Overhaul

The recent death of an eight-year-old girl in Mauli Jagran has led to an urgent call for comprehensive reviews of sanitation and drinking water safety in the affected area. Mayor Saurabh Joshi expressed deep concern, emphasizing that access to clean water and hygienic conditions is paramount.

Residents have reported persistent problems with contaminated and irregular water supply, including muddy, foul-smelling water and frequent disruptions. Overflowing sewage lines and inadequate sanitation have further heightened the risk of disease outbreaks.

Medical practitioners have noted an increase in water-borne illnesses such as jaundice and typhoid. The crisis escalated as local tubewells reportedly became non-functional, forcing reliance on unsafe water sources.

In response, the Mayor directed the Municipal Corporation to swiftly restore water infrastructure, clean sewage lines, and arrange for safe drinking water. Coordination with the Health Department to monitor and manage disease spread was also stressed.

The Mayor acknowledged similar complaints from other city areas, indicating a need for broader system reviews. He demanded accountability from the Municipal Commissioner to address infrastructure issues and fix responsibility for any lapses, preventing public health emergencies.
