25 Apr
Summary
- Two additional Maryland residents contracted measles recently.
- New cases stem from travel to a state with active measles transmission.
- Measles is highly contagious and spreads through airborne droplets.

Maryland health officials have confirmed two new cases of measles in Baltimore-area residents. These individuals contracted the illness after traveling to another U.S. state where measles transmission is currently active. This brings the total recent measles cases to three, following an earlier confirmed case in an international traveler.
Health authorities are diligently working to identify anyone who may have been exposed to the virus. Measles is known for its high contagiousness, spreading easily through coughing, sneezing, or breathing. The virus can remain airborne for up to two hours.
Individuals are encouraged to check their vaccination status. Protection is generally considered high for those who received two vaccine doses or were born before 1957. Exposed individuals not fully vaccinated or immune should monitor for symptoms for up to 21 days.
