Martin House, a children's hospice in West Yorkshire, has achieved its £2 million public appeal target for a significant redevelopment project. This funding is crucial for 'The Build', a £21.9 million initiative to extend and refurbish the hospice facilities in Boston Spa. The project aims to enhance the care provided to children and young people with life-shortening conditions across West, North, and East Yorkshire.
The new children's wing opened in February 2025, with the remainder of the refurbishment and extension work scheduled for completion in spring. These upgrades will introduce state-of-the-art facilities, including a hydrotherapy pool, a dedicated wellbeing suite, and an education centre. These enhancements are designed to match the high quality of care offered by the hospice staff.
Fundraising efforts were diverse, featuring events like a zip wire challenge and a 'Raise the Roof' donation drive that brought in over £400,000 in just 36 hours. Significant contributions also came from individuals, trusts, and foundations. The hospice emphasizes the ongoing need for funds, with an estimated £12 million required for its operation next year, highlighting the importance of sustained support for its future.
