Doctors' Trust in Manx Care Hits New Low
6 Feb
Summary
- A 2025 survey shows 69% of doctors feel their views are not heard at Manx Care.
- Only 13% of doctors perceive good leadership at senior levels within Manx Care.
- Doctor dissatisfaction with Manx Care has shown year-on-year improvement.

Trust in Manx Care and its senior leadership remains low among doctors on the Isle of Man, according to a 2025 British Medical Association (BMA) survey. The "Culture of Care Barometer" questionnaire, surveying 89 doctors, found that 64% do not believe Manx Care values their services, and 69% feel their perspectives are disregarded.
Despite these figures, Manx Care stated that the long-term findings are positive, demonstrating "year-on-year improvement." The organization highlighted that most participants feel respected by colleagues and line managers. However, only 13% of doctors reported seeing evidence of good senior leadership, with 71% stating they did not.
This situation follows an independent report identifying "fundamental issues" with Manx Care's operational independence from the government. The healthcare provider was established in 2021. In comparison to a 2024 survey, the percentage of doctors recommending Manx Care as a good workplace dropped from 74% to 54% in 2025. While leadership perception improved slightly from nearly 80% in 2024 to 71% in 2025, staff resource concerns also decreased.
Manx Care acknowledged "legacy negative feelings" from its 2021 establishment and noted requests for more constructive feedback, positive role models, and development support. The organization is implementing a clinical leadership model and a "Manx Care professional senate" to foster better communication and understanding.
