Man's 15cm Neck Tumor Removed Safely
17 Aug
Summary
- A 65-year-old man's neck mass grew for 25 years.
- MRI confirmed a benign, well-encapsulated fatty tumor.
- Surgery restored natural contour and patient confidence.

A 65-year-old man's neck lump, initially a small, painless swelling noticed in his forties, grew over 25 years to a significant 15x12 cm mass. This growth, while benign, began to affect his clothing, posture, and self-confidence.
An MRI scan revealed the mass to be a well-encapsulated fatty tumor within the subcutaneous tissue. Crucially, the scan confirmed no invasion into surrounding muscles or the spine, reassuring the medical team that it was not a cancerous growth.
Led by Dr. Anmol Chugh at CK Birla Hospital, Gurgaon, the surgical plan prioritized complete excision, preservation of surrounding nerves and vessels, minimizing dead space, and restoring the neck's natural contour.
The surgery involved careful dissection to separate the tumor from surrounding tissues. Post-excision, the focus shifted to reconstruction, managing bleeding, and reshaping the neck. Six months later, the patient's neck had regained its natural shape, and his scar had matured well.
This case underscores that benign growths can have significant physical and emotional impacts. The successful surgery not only removed the mass but also restored the patient's comfort and confidence.
