Tension escalated at Mankar Health Centre in East Burdwan district on Saturday night after a patient died, with the deceased's family accusing the hospital of negligence. The ensuing unrest saw significant vandalism, with an angry mob ransacking medicine cabinets, chairs, and tables. Frightened patients sought refuge in toilets and on the rooftop, eyewitnesses reported.

During the chaos, a general duty attendant was reportedly assaulted in the presence of police. In response, healthcare workers staged a demonstration on Sunday, demanding better security measures, which disrupted outpatient services. The district health department confirmed no nurses were assaulted and dispatched an official to restore emergency services and file a police complaint against those involved in the violence. The patient's body has been sent for post-mortem, and police are awaiting formal complaints from both sides.
