Measles is a highly contagious viral illness spread through airborne droplets. Symptoms, appearing 7 to 21 days post-exposure, include cough, fever, runny nose, conjunctivitis, white spots in the mouth, and a red rash. Individuals are infectious from four days before the rash appears until four days after. Health officials emphasize that immunization is the sole method of protection against the disease.
