As temperatures climb in Mangaluru, Government Wenlock Hospital has proactively established a dedicated 10-bed ward on the fifth floor of its super-speciality block to manage heatstroke cases.
The hospital superintendent announced that individuals exhibiting symptoms such as disorientation and a body temperature of 40 degrees Celsius or higher should seek immediate medical help by calling 108. Swift action is crucial for heatstroke victims.
Recommended first aid includes moving the victim to a shaded area, immersion in cold water, and applying wet towels or ice packs to reduce body heat. If the victim remains unconscious, water or electrolytes should be administered, avoiding caffeine or liquor. Loose clothing is also advised.
