Despite experiencing pain at the time, Wang was able to breathe and refused a recommended surgical procedure that would have involved an incision in his neck. He lived with the foreign object for nearly a decade, experiencing intermittent discomfort that he attributed to his struggles with alcohol.
His condition worsened recently, prompting him to seek medical attention at Dalian Municipal Central Hospital in March. Doctors were astonished to discover the extent of the situation. An examination revealed the chopstick was lodged in the soft palate, yet remarkably, no vital organs were harmed, and his vocal cords remained functional.
Opting for a less invasive approach, the medical team successfully removed the chopstick through the man's mouth. The procedure resulted in minimal bleeding, and Wang made a good recovery, being discharged from the hospital shortly thereafter.
