Over 900 Malaria Cases Spark Health Alert

Malaria cases are steadily increasing across Sindh province, with official statistics revealing over 900 confirmed infections reported in a single day recently. Of the 10,033 suspected patients screened, 916 tested positive for the mosquito-borne disease. The Hyderabad division reported the highest number of confirmed cases with 410, followed by Larkana (208) and Mirpurkhas (174) divisions. Some health practitioners in Karachi suggest the actual numbers may be higher, noting a consistent daily increase in malaria patients over the past three weeks.

Doctors confirm that only vivax malaria cases are being reported, often due to patients discontinuing the full 14-day treatment course prematurely, which can lead to disease relapse and severe complications. Experts are emphasizing the critical need for immediate public health interventions, including widespread fumigation campaigns and improvements to the city's broken sewerage system, to effectively control the mosquito population. Historical data from 2025 indicated a concerning number of deaths from mosquito-borne diseases in Sindh, underscoring the urgency of current public health efforts.
