The summer has been marked by an alarming number of significant food recalls across the United States. These recalls stem from various issues, including bacterial contamination, foreign objects, and undeclared allergens. Consumers are advised to exercise vigilance regarding their food products.
Walmart's Marketside Tomato Bisque Soup Kits, sold exclusively at select Walmart stores, were voluntarily recalled on August 17, 2026, due to the potential presence of Listeria monocytogenes. Approximately 3,200 kits distributed between June 30 and July 7, 2026, are affected. The pathogen can cause severe illness, particularly in immunocompromised individuals, children, and the elderly.
Furthermore, Publix initiated a voluntary recall on July 29, 2026, for all lots of GreenWise Organic Whole Blueberries and Whole Mixed Berries. This recall, classified as Class I by the FDA, is linked to a multistate E. coli outbreak and has caused at least 12 illnesses, with four hospitalizations. The affected berries were distributed to Publix stores in eight states since June.
Dreyer's Grand Ice Cream announced on August 18, 2026, a recall of specific lots of five Outshine ice pop flavors. This action was taken after consumer reports indicated the presence of glass shards. While no injuries have been reported, affected products with best-by dates ranging from May 2027 to November 2027 should be returned to the place of purchase or discarded.
