Maharashtra Achieves SDG Goal Amidst Health Challenges

Maharashtra's health minister announced the state has met the SDG 2030 target for Neonatal Mortality Rate (NMR), achieving 11 deaths per 1,000 live births in 2023. This is a significant milestone amidst ongoing health concerns.
Despite this achievement, the district of Palghar reported a considerable number of malnourished children, with 303 severely and 2,663 moderately affected. Furthermore, COVID-19 deaths saw an increase between January and October 2025, rising to 46 from 35 in the same period of 2024.
The government is implementing various schemes, including supplementary nutrition and health check-ups, to combat malnutrition and improve maternal and child health. While malaria cases and deaths remain steady, gastroenteritis cases have seen a decrease.
