Medical Suppliers' Hunger Strike Looms Over Unpaid Dues
3 Jul
Summary
- Suppliers protest overdue payments spanning over a year.
- MSMEs face severe financial distress due to pending dues.
- Unpaid dues threaten uninterrupted supply of essential healthcare products.
Medical suppliers across Maharashtra are initiating an indefinite hunger strike outside the Maharashtra Medical Goods Procurement Authority. This action, scheduled for Monday, is a direct response to payments that have been pending for over a year.
The All Food and Drug Licence Holders Foundation (AFDLHF) stated that particularly MSMEs are struggling to meet their financial obligations. This includes paying employees, meeting banking commitments, and settling accounts with manufacturers and transporters.
AFDLHF indicated that this hunger strike follows numerous written representations, meetings with senior officials, and repeated follow-ups. The foundation warned that the extended delay in payments is negatively impacting the consistent supply of crucial healthcare products to government hospitals and primary health centers statewide.
