In 2025, Maharashtra experienced a notable decrease in dengue and chikungunya cases. Dengue infections reduced by 27%, with deaths falling by 47.5%, while chikungunya cases dropped by 41.3% without any reported fatalities. These improvements are credited to enhanced disease management and timely treatment.
However, the state faced an upward trend in malaria cases, reporting an 8.4% increase in infections and a 3.8% rise in deaths compared to the previous year. Palghar, Pune, Akola, and Amravati reported the highest dengue cases, while Palghar and Pune led in chikungunya cases.
Malaria remains a concern in tribal areas, particularly in Gadchiroli district, which accounted for most cases and deaths. Health officials stated that sustained surveillance and vector control measures were effective for dengue and chikungunya, with ongoing focused interventions to curb the rise in malaria.
