The government's order highlighted that a persistent 35.4% of analyzed samples were non-conforming, proving existing measures insufficient.
Penalties for offenses range from six months imprisonment and a ₹1 lakh fine to life imprisonment and a ₹10 lakh fine if consumption leads to death. Calls have also been made to extend scrutiny to analogue cheese products.
