A groundbreaking study from the National University of Singapore (NUS) has revealed that low-intensity magnetic pulses can reprogram immune cells to target and destroy cancer cells. This innovative technique has demonstrated remarkable success in pre-clinical breast cancer models, completely eliminating tumors in 75% of cases after only four 30-minute sessions.
Pulsed electromagnetic fields (PEMFs) offer a gentle, non-thermal method to interact with specific cellular channels, triggering calcium influx and stimulating mitochondria. This process can overload cancer cells, which often have heightened metabolic activity, leading to their destruction without harming healthy tissue. The therapy also enhances the uptake of chemotherapy drugs, potentially reducing dosages and associated toxicities.
Currently in Phase I clinical trials, the PEMF therapy aims to maximize treatment efficacy while minimizing side effects and preserving patient quality of life. Further trials are planned over the next two to three years to evaluate its effectiveness in shrinking tumors and complementing chemotherapy in a larger patient group.
