Summary
- Daughter of Maggie's founder joins design team for new center.
- The new center will be built in her mother's hometown of Dumfries.
- The facility aims to provide support and information for cancer patients.

Lily Jencks, daughter of the late founder of Maggie's cancer care charity, will contribute to the design of a new center in Dumfries, her mother's hometown.
Her studio is collaborating with Roz Barr Architects on the project, which received approval in August of the previous year. Maggie's CEO, Dame Laura Lee, expressed delight in having Jencks involved to honor her mother's legacy.
Maggie Keswick Jencks, a writer and designer from near Dumfries, was diagnosed with breast cancer in her late 40s. She and her husband recognized the need for a supportive space near hospitals for individuals with cancer.
Their vision led to the first Maggie's Centre opening in Edinburgh in 1996, a year after Keswick Jencks' passing. While Lily Jencks has previously designed gardens for centers in Glasgow and Hong Kong, this South Scotland project holds particular significance for her.
She hopes the Dumfries facility will complement hospital care, providing crucial psychological and practical support. The center will offer services like financial advice and therapies, acting as a place for patients and families to find respite and support.
The timeline for the center's opening depends on fundraising and planning permission, which is anticipated by the end of the current year, with a potential opening a couple of years thereafter.
