In a remarkable display of generosity, the organs of a 47-year-old man from Madurai, who succumbed to injuries from a road traffic accident, have saved the lives of five individuals. The incident occurred on May 26 when Sivakumar was involved in a collision near Rajakudi. He sustained a severe head injury and was admitted to Govt Rajaji Hospital.
Despite intensive treatment by neurosurgery and ICU teams, Sivakumar was tragically declared brain dead on May 28. His wife, Rajeswari, made the compassionate decision to donate his organs, ensuring his legacy of kindness would continue. The organ harvesting took place at the trauma care centre.
The donated organs have brought hope to several recipients. The liver was transplanted at Dr Sundaram Hospital in Trichy. One kidney was sent to Govt Mahatma Gandhi Hospital in Trichy, while the other reached Govt Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital. Both corneas and skin were donated to Madurai GRH, benefiting five people in total.
The postmortem was completed at GRH, and Sivakumar's body was subsequently handed over to his relatives. The administration of GRH honored the departed soul, and the Madurai district administration accorded state honors, recognizing his profound contribution.
