This action follows a public interest litigation highlighting severe sanitation and safety issues. The court seeks a report on the hospital's sanitation, security, and basic facilities.
The litigation was prompted by an incident where an elderly woman, recovering from orthopaedic surgery, sustained a toe injury from a rat bite in the general ward. Despite prior warnings from the patient's son about a rat infestation, no effective measures were taken by the hospital staff.
The court also noted other deficiencies, including unsatisfactory restrooms, stagnant drainage water, and concerns regarding vehicle theft, stray dogs, and the handling of dead bodies. The petitioner requested proper hospital maintenance and compensation for the injured patient. A report is to be submitted, with the next hearing scheduled for October 15.
