Summary
- Residents at risk due to inaccurate and inconsistent care plans.
- Lap belts were routinely used to restrict resident movement.
- Serious concerns found regarding staff training and hygiene.

Castletroy Residential Home in Luton has been placed in special measures by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) following an inspection in February. The home's rating was downgraded from good to inadequate, with inspectors identifying significant risks to residents' safety.
Concerns highlighted in the CQC report include the routine use of lap belts to restrict residents' movement and care plans that were not consistently followed. One resident at high risk of choking was given a diet incompatible with their needs. Furthermore, only a fraction of staff had received essential training, such as falls prevention.
Serious issues were also raised regarding staff conduct, with instances of disrespectful language and mimicking distressed residents. The inspection also uncovered dirty bathrooms and expired food. The CQC reported seven safeguarding incidents to the local authority. The home stated it has implemented an improvement plan and is working with authorities to address the issues.
