Summary
- Patient diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis and severe pulmonary hypertension.
- CTPA revealed complete occlusion of the left pulmonary artery.
- Successful surgical removal of chronic left pulmonary thromboembolism.

A 38-year-old male patient who was admitted with deep vein thrombosis has undergone a life-saving surgical intervention at Father Muller Medical College and Hospital. The patient presented with significant breathlessness and critically low oxygen saturation, necessitating continuous oxygen support.
Further evaluation, including echocardiography and CT pulmonary angiography, revealed severe pulmonary arterial hypertension and a complete blockage of the left pulmonary artery. This indicated a chronic, life-threatening pulmonary embolism. The medical team determined that surgical intervention was the best course of action.
Last month, the patient successfully underwent a left surgical pulmonary thromboembolectomy under general anesthesia and total circulatory arrest. This advanced procedure required considerable surgical expertise and close coordination. Following the surgery, the patient was managed in the ICU and has now fully recovered, no longer requiring oxygen and maintaining 95% oxygen saturation.
