22 Jun
Summary
- A single dose of an experimental LSD-based pill significantly reduced depression symptoms.
- The drug, DT120, met its primary trial goal with a significant score difference versus placebo.
- No serious safety issues or increase in suicidal thoughts were observed in the trial.

Definium Therapeutics announced that its experimental LSD-based pill, DT120, has demonstrated significant efficacy in treating major depression. In a late-stage trial, a single dose of the drug substantially reduced depressive symptoms, meeting the trial's main objective.
Patients treated with DT120 showed significantly lower scores on a standard depression scale compared to those receiving a placebo after six weeks. Initial improvements were observed as early as one week post-dosing, with sustained benefits noted at 12 weeks.
The drug, a pharmaceutical formulation of lysergide (LSD), activates serotonin receptors in the brain. It was generally well-tolerated, with adverse events being mild and temporary. Importantly, the trial reported no serious safety issues or an increase in suicidal thoughts.
These positive results bring Definium Therapeutics closer to an FDA submission. The company is currently conducting a second late-stage trial for depression, indicating continued development in this promising area of mental health treatment.
