2 Mar
Summary
- Lokayukta investigates Kidwai Oncology Institute for mismanagement.
- Critical cancer medicines like Trastuzumab are unavailable.
- Acute doctor shortage and cleanliness issues also flagged.

The Karnataka Lokayukta has initiated a suo motu inquiry into alleged irregularities and mismanagement at the Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology in Bengaluru. This action follows an anonymous complaint detailing significant administrative lapses.
A team from the Lokayukta is examining hospital records and may seize documents. The investigation is focusing on the critical shortage of essential medicines, including protein-based therapies and Trastuzumab, which are vital for cancer patients.
The Lokayukta has ordered the Health and Family Welfare Department and the Suvarna Arogya Suraksha Trust to ensure uninterrupted supply of all essential cancer drugs. Procedural bottlenecks affecting beneficiaries of government schemes like Ayushman Bharat have also been highlighted, with directions issued to streamline processes.
Concerns about an acute doctor shortage in the Medical Oncology Department were previously raised on September 26, 2025. The Lokayukta advised implementing incentives to attract and retain specialists. Improvements in cleanliness are noted, though the administration is directed to achieve full compliance.
