12 May
Summary
- Lidl chicken fillets recalled due to salmonella contamination.
- Recall impacts batches suitable for home freezing.
- Infection symptoms include fever, cramps, and diarrhoea.

A recall has been issued for specific Lidl Ireland branded chicken breast fillet products due to the presence of salmonella. The affected items include Free Range 100% Irish Chicken Breast Fillets 291g and 100% Irish Diced Chicken Breast Fillets 550g, both with a use-by date of 12 April.
Although these batches are past their use-by date, they were noted as being suitable for home freezing. The Food Safety Authority Ireland (FSAI) is advising customers to thoroughly check their freezers for these products. Consumers are strongly urged not to consume any of the implicated chicken fillets.
Salmonella infection typically manifests 12 to 36 hours after exposure, though symptoms can appear between six and 72 hours. Common symptoms include fever, abdominal cramps, diarrhoea, and vomiting. Investigations are ongoing with Lidl Northern Ireland and the Food Standards Agency regarding potential contamination in Northern Ireland batches.
