Doctors in Delhi have achieved a significant medical milestone by delivering a healthy baby girl to a 32-year-old woman who was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia during her fifth month of pregnancy. The patient, originally from Madhya Pradesh, received simultaneous treatment for her fast-growing blood cancer and close monitoring of her pregnancy.
This rare and challenging case involved a multidisciplinary team that devised a treatment plan to control the aggressive leukaemia while prioritizing the safety of the unborn child. Chemotherapy and constant fetal monitoring were crucial in stabilizing the mother and extending the pregnancy.
At 32 weeks and four days, medical indicators of restricted fetal growth and altered blood flow prompted an emergency caesarean section on May 7. The newborn, weighing 1.28 kg, and her mother are both stable. The baby is currently receiving specialized neonatal care, while the mother is preparing for further leukaemia treatment.
