2 Mar
Summary
- 32 leptospirosis cases confirmed, 31 in children.
- Rodent droppings in water tank caused outbreak panic.
- Health teams deployed, clean water and ORS packets distributed.

A leptospirosis outbreak has infected 32 people, including 31 children, in the Ferozepur border village of Hazara Singh Wala. The crisis escalated following the discovery of rodent droppings and dead pigeons in a water tank, prompting immediate administrative action. The regular water supply was halted, with tankers dispatched and pipeline inspections underway. Water samples have been sent for testing.
Health teams are working round the clock, conducting screenings, distributing essential supplies like ORS packets and chlorine tablets, and providing medical care. A separate 40-bed ward has been established at the civil hospital for patients with jaundice and infections. Authorities are cleaning village ponds and assessing the need for a new pipeline, with RO systems in schools also under review for proper functioning and maintenance.
A magisterial probe is ongoing, and nearly 30 teams are conducting door-to-door screenings and distributing medical aid. The situation is reported as stable, with surveillance increased due to symptoms resembling jaundice. A comprehensive report is expected soon.
