Leicester's healthcare infrastructure is poised for a major upgrade with the announcement of over £50 million in funding for its three main hospitals. This significant investment aims to enhance patient care and modernise facilities across the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust.
A central part of this funding package is a new £12.8 million urgent treatment centre. Construction is slated to commence in the first quarter of 2026, with the centre expected to be fully operational by 2027 at the Leicester Royal Infirmary. This purpose-built facility will replace existing services for minor injuries and illnesses, offering larger clinical rooms.
Beyond the new centre, the trust will benefit from a further £39 million. This substantial sum is designated for a range of improvements, including extensive refurbishments, the development of new laboratory spaces, and upgrades to training facilities, ensuring continued development and better operational capacity.
