Leicester Care Home Fails Inspection, Risks Harm
15 Mar
Summary
- Inspectors found significant management shortfalls risking harm.
- Staff member dismissed for safeguarding concerns still attended visits.
- Clients and relatives reported issues with care consistency and safety.

Jewel Home Care (JHC) in Leicester has been placed in special measures following an "inadequate" rating by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
An inspection last November revealed "significant shortfalls" in management, increasing the risk of harm to individuals receiving care at home. Urgent conditions were imposed on the provider.
Concerns included a staff member dismissed for safeguarding issues who continued to attend client visits, with management citing rota errors. Issues with risk assessments, care plans, and inconsistent staffing were also noted.
Relatives reported instances of soiled bedding not being changed promptly and essential mobility aids being left out of reach, posing fall risks. One client with dementia was left unsupervised to take medication.
The CQC highlighted failures in safe care and treatment, safe recruitment practices, and effective oversight as reasons for the special measures, which aim to ensure significant improvements.
