In Leicester, a vibrant dance group is empowering individuals affected by cancer to engage in physical activity within a secure and encouraging setting. These Bollywood-themed dance sessions, initiated in 2022, take place every Thursday at the Belgrave Neighbourhood Centre.
The initiative, a collaboration with Move Against Cancer and Apnapan, focuses on mitigating cancer fatigue through movement. Participants, including those living with and beyond cancer, along with their caregivers and the bereaved, find a place with "no pressure" and "no stress."
Move mentor training equips individuals to offer peer support in a relaxed environment. Participants recently marked World Cancer Day with a special Bollywood block dance program. Further dance sessions are scheduled throughout 2026, emphasizing personalized movement journeys.
Dance instructor Janyna Patel highlights that the magic of the sessions lies in the collective fun and stress-free atmosphere. This supportive community ensures everyone can enjoy the benefits of movement and connection.
