Lead Found in Walmart Dino Nuggets
2 Apr
Summary
- Walmart chicken nuggets possibly contaminated with lead.
- Health alert issued by USDA's FSIS, no recall yet.
- Lead exposure poses significant risks to young children.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) issued a public health alert on April 1, 2026, concerning frozen, ready-to-eat, dinosaur-shaped chicken nuggets sold at Walmart stores nationwide. These "Great Value Fully Cooked Dino Shaped Chicken Breast Nuggets" were found to potentially contain lead during routine testing by a state partner.
The affected products were produced on February 10, 2026, and sold in 29-ounce bags with a "Best If Used By" date of February 10, 2027. The FSIS has not initiated a recall because the nuggets are no longer available for purchase. However, officials are concerned that consumers may still have the product stored in their freezers.
Lead exposure is a serious health concern, especially for infants, young children, and pregnant women, as it can adversely affect brain and nervous system development. Federal health officials emphasize that no level of lead exposure is considered safe. Consumers with the affected nuggets are advised to avoid consumption and either discard them or return them to Walmart for a refund. The FSIS investigation into this matter is ongoing.
