On November 10, 2025, the Department of Endocrinology at the Government General Hospital in Kurnool, India, held a Continuing Medical Education (CME) event on 'Bone Health in Diabetics' to commemorate World Diabetes Day. The event, which took place at the Kurnool Medical College, was attended by the Principal of the college, the Superintendent of the GGH Kurnool, and a former Superintendent.
The guest speaker, Beatrice Annie, an Additional Professor and Head of the Department of Endocrinology at the Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences in Hyderabad, emphasized the often-neglected aspect of bone disease in diabetes. She stressed the importance of Bone Mineral Density (BMD) testing and the early identification of skeletal complications.
The Head of the Department, P. Sreenivasulu, announced that a DEXA scan facility is now available at the GGH Kurnool, which will facilitate the early detection and management of osteoporosis and other diabetic bone disorders. Dr. K. Venkateswarlu, an orthopedic surgeon, also spoke about the orthopedic implications of diabetes on bone strength and fracture risk, highlighting the need for a collaborative approach between endocrinologists and orthopedic specialists.
The event was well-attended by faculty, postgraduate residents, and nursing students, reaffirming the department's commitment to academic excellence and holistic diabetes care.
