The establishment of a new Institute of Organ Transplantation in Kozhikode is moving forward, with the State Cabinet recently sanctioning 60 new posts. This crucial development signals the imminent launch of the institute's first phase, which will be housed within the Kozhikode Government Medical College.
The comprehensive project has received a significant financial backing of ₹643.88 crore. The institute is designed to be a central hub, integrating scientists, researchers, and clinicians to coordinate all aspects of organ donation and transplantation across the state. It will encompass treatment, rehabilitation, research, teaching, and public awareness initiatives.
Plans include a state-of-the-art 510-bed hospital with advanced facilities, including numerous operating rooms and a dedicated transplant research center. The institute aims to offer a full spectrum of care for patients, from managing end-stage organ failure to complex transplant surgeries and long-term recovery, and will also introduce 31 academic courses.
