Government Medical College Hospital (MCH) in Kottayam is poised for a major upgrade with the inauguration of development projects totaling ₹283 crore. The centerpiece of these enhancements is a new surgical block, a significant ₹257-crore investment that boasts over 33,642 sq m of built-up area, 526 beds, 44 ICU beds, and 14 operation theatres. This state-of-the-art facility is equipped with advanced medical technology, including a 256-slice CT scan and a 3 Tesla MRI.
Further bolstering the hospital's capabilities are several other key projects. A new cath lab, established at a cost of ₹7.88 crore, and a maternal and newborn care unit, set up for ₹1.2 crore, are among the new facilities. The inauguration also includes the first phase of a paramedical hostel (₹6 crore), a 32-slice CT scanning system in the cancer block (₹4.28 crore), and a renovated main entrance (₹1.25 crore).
Additional developments include the foundation stone laying for a new toilet block in the ABC block (₹74 lakh). Several other facilities funded through CSR funds, such as a skin bank, creche, and lactation management centre, will also be inaugurated. These comprehensive upgrades represent a substantial advancement in healthcare infrastructure for Kottayam.
