Four women have died in Kota's government hospitals following Cesarean-section surgeries. The most recent fatality, 30-year-old Pinki Mahawar, passed away on May 12, 2026, at JK Lone Hospital. She had undergone a C-section on May 7, 2026, and her condition reportedly worsened the next day, leading to further surgery and ventilation. Her husband alleges negligence, stating she was not transferred to a higher medical facility until she was critical on May 10, 2026.
Earlier, Priya Mahawar (22) died on the night of May 9-10, 2026, from a kidney infection post-C-section at JK Lone Hospital. Prior to that, Payal (26) and Jyoti Nayak (19) died on May 5 and May 7, 2026, respectively, at the New Medical College Hospital (NMCH). Dr. Nilesh Jain, principal of NMCH, noted that all victims presented with similar symptoms: a drop in blood pressure and kidney infections.
A team from Jaipur's SMS Hospital has been dispatched to investigate both hospitals, collecting blood and urine samples to determine the exact cause. The cluster of deaths with identical post-operative complications is considered highly unusual. The situation led to protests by family members and local Congress workers, who are demanding the suspension of doctors. State health secretary Gayatri Rathore arrived in Kota on May 12, 2026, to assess the situation.
