Kollam to Get New CGHS Wellness Centre, Easing Access for Beneficiaries
15 Nov
Summary
- Ministry of Health approves CGHS Wellness Centre in Kollam
- Centre will provide easy access to beneficiaries in Kollam and nearby districts
- Approval process delayed due to time taken for first phase of 22 centres

On November 15, 2025, the Ministry of Health announced that it has granted approval for a new CGHS (Central Government Health Scheme) Wellness Centre to be established in Kollam, Kerala. This decision comes after a persistent demand from the local community for such a facility.
Earlier, the Ministry had granted in-principle approval to start Wellness Centres in seven locations, including Kollam, by relaxing the existing norms. However, the delay in proceeding with the second phase of Wellness Centres was due to the time taken for the first phase of 22 sanctioned centres to receive approval from the Finance Expenditure Division.
Now, with the approval of the first phase Wellness Centres, the Ministry of Health has granted the go-ahead for the CGHS Wellness Centre in Kollam. Once established, the centre will offer easy access to beneficiaries from various parts of Kollam and nearby districts, addressing a long-standing need in the region.
The next step is for the Finance Expenditure Division to forward the approval order from the Ministry of Health, as starting new Wellness Centres will incur recurring expenditure for the government. Once the Finance Expenditure Division's approval is obtained, the Kollam CGHS Wellness Centre can be opened and operations can commence.
