3 Mar
Summary
- A hospital was ordered to pay 20 lakh for delayed surgical intervention.
- Another hospital must refund 6 lakh due to treatment complications.
- A doctor with only an MBBS degree improperly treated a patient.

The West Bengal Clinical Establishment Regulatory Commission has levied significant compensation orders against hospitals in Kolkata following findings of serious patient care negligence.
Narayan Memorial Hospital in Behala was directed to pay Rs 20 lakh for a case where a 53-year-old man's death was deemed preventable with timely surgical intervention. The patient was initially treated under a medicine doctor, with surgery delayed by six days.
Lapses at the same hospital also impacted a 60-year-old patient. This individual was treated by a consultant who held only an MBBS degree. The commission ordered a Rs 10 lakh compensation after the patient developed complications following a procedure.
In a separate ruling, Manipal Hospitals Mukundapur was ordered to refund the full Rs 6 lakh bill for a 67-year-old woman who died in October 2025. The family complained about delays in releasing the body until the bill was settled.
