Kolkata inaugurated the Charnock Lohia Hospital on Thursday, a 250-bed multispecialty facility housed within a grand 200-year-old heritage building on Rabindra Sarani. This Grade-I heritage property, once a palace and later a maternity home, has been meticulously restored into a state-of-the-art 'Heritage Super Speciality Hospital'.
The hospital boasts 80 ICU beds, modular operation theatres, a cath lab, and advanced imaging, focusing on high-end tertiary care. It aims to serve approximately 10,000 inpatients annually with an investment of Rs 250 crore. Key departments include neurology, cardiology, gastroenterology, and critical care.
This launch is part of a broader expansion of private healthcare in Kolkata. By 2026, several other hospitals, including Ruby General Hospital, Disha Hospital, and Woodlands Multispecialty Hospital, are collectively adding around 1,300 beds. Woodlands will add 200 beds, Disha Hospital plans a 250-bed facility, and BP Poddar Hospital will introduce a 150-bed oncology unit.
