Summary
- Antoine Johnson, a kidney patient, partnered with Spicybears for awareness bags.
- New bags aim to increase organ donor registration and support dialysis patients.
- African Americans are disproportionately affected by kidney failure.

Antoine Johnson, a Philadelphia resident and public relations executive, is partnering with the national brand Spicybears to raise awareness for kidney disease and organ donation. Diagnosed with Stage 5 renal failure nearly two years ago, Johnson relies on dialysis three times a week and urgently needs a kidney transplant. He co-designed special bags with Spicybears intended to provide comfort and companionship to dialysis patients, reminding them they are not alone during their treatments. "You have a companion now. You don't have to sit there alone," Johnson stated. The initiative also seeks to increase the number of organ donors. African Americans are nearly four times more likely than White people to suffer kidney failure, yet Black organ donations are significantly lower. Johnson's efforts aim to address this disparity and encourage more people to consider becoming organ donors. "People wait for an organ transplant for a long time, specifically for a kidney, anywhere between three and 10 years," Johnson noted, emphasizing the urgency of the situation. He shared his personal philosophy of living each moment fully, a message he hopes to spread through the new bags.
