Summary
- Pratiksha initiative targets early detection of renal diseases in children.
- SAT Hospital designated as the state-level pediatric nephrology hub.
- Program aims to reduce long-term complications and healthcare costs for families.

The Health department in Kerala has initiated 'Pratiksha', a statewide program focused on the early detection and comprehensive management of pediatric renal diseases. This initiative was launched on World Kidney Day, March 12, 2026, at SAT Hospital, which is now designated as the state's pediatric nephrology hub. The program is designed to address the growing public health challenge of rising kidney diseases among children.
Pratiksha aims to tackle congenital renal issues from gestation through a multidisciplinary expert team, ensuring abnormalities are identified and managed during the neonatal period. Infants and children requiring advanced care will be referred to medical colleges. By ensuring early diagnosis and intervention, the state seeks to arrest disease progression, provide long-term follow-ups, and implement a comprehensive renal replacement program, thereby improving children's quality of life and alleviating family financial burdens.
