A 17-year-old girl tragically lost her life on Wednesday after jumping from her school building in Payyavoor, Kannur, Kerala, on Monday. The student, who sustained severe head injuries, was declared brain dead after being on ventilator support. In a profound act of generosity, her parents consented to donate her vital organs.
Ayona Monson's kidneys, liver, and corneas were retrieved, offering a lifeline to several patients in need. One kidney was transported to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital for a swift transplant, while the other reached Aster MIMS Hospital in Kozhikode. Her liver was also donated to a patient at Meitra Hospital, Kozhikode.
The state health minister expressed gratitude to the grieving family for their compassionate decision. Ayona is survived by her siblings, Martin and Angel. Her funeral was scheduled to take place on Friday, marking the end of a young life but the continuation of others through her selfless gift.
