- Himachal Pradesh aims to implement Kerala's community-based palliative care model

In a significant move, the Kerala Health Department has announced that it will provide all necessary support to Himachal Pradesh to implement the Kerala model of community-based palliative care across the northern state's Assembly constituencies.
Earlier this year, a team from Himachal Pradesh, including the Health Minister, Health Secretary, and NHM Mission Director, had visited Kerala to closely study the state's palliative care delivery system. After observing the universal palliative care services provided to all bedridden patients in Thiruvananthapuram and Ernakulam districts, the Himachal Pradesh team expressed their appreciation for Kerala's model.
As a result, Himachal Pradesh has decided to adopt Kerala's community-based palliative care approach. To kickstart the implementation, the first batch of 15 doctors and 15 nurses from Himachal Pradesh have now received 10-day training in palliative care delivery. The training certificates were distributed by Kerala Health Minister Veena George on Wednesday.
