Kerala is launching its first dedicated Institute of Organ Transplantation on Saturday, February 7, 2026, in Chevayur, Kozhikode. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will lay the foundation stone for this ₹643.88 crore autonomous public sector center, funded by KIIFB.

This includes organ donation initiatives, transplant surgeries, post-transplant rehabilitation, training, and research. It will cover the entire spectrum from managing organ failure to post-transplant follow-up care.

The facility will be a 350-bed institution across three eight-floor blocks, equipped with intensive care units, high dependency units, and dialysis services. It will also house a dedicated transplant research center and a cell and tissue engineering center. Initially, 14 specialty departments will be established, with plans for 31 academic courses, many being unique in India. The institute will commence operations at Kozhikode Medical College before moving to its new facility, with 60 sanctioned posts in the first phase.
