Summary
- A donor's family gave consent for organ donation after brain death.
- Organs transplanted included liver, kidneys, skin, and corneas.
- Organs were allocated to patients at KIMSHEALTH and GMC Kottayam.

A deceased-donor organ donation took place in Kerala recently, offering renewed hope to several patients. Following the declaration of brain death for a 67-year-old Kottarakkara resident due to cerebral hemorrhage, his family generously consented to donate his organs.
The harvested organs included the liver and both kidneys, along with skin and corneas. One kidney and the liver were allocated to patients undergoing treatment at KIMSHEALTH hospital. The second kidney was given to a patient at Government Medical College Kottayam.
Further tissues, including skin and corneas, were also retrieved for donation. The skin will be preserved at a skin bank in Thiruvananthapuram, while the corneas will be handled by the Regional Institute of Ophthalmology. A dedicated green corridor was established to ensure timely transport of a kidney.
The donor, a retired Revenue department employee, had been admitted to the hospital on September 21 following his cerebral hemorrhage. Organ allocation was coordinated by the Kerala State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (K-SOTTO).
